Boothroyd Eyes Smith Loan Deal

Watford manager, Aidy Boothroyd has revealed he has enquired about the possibility of bringing Manchester United midfielder, Alan Smith to Vicarage Road on loan.

The former England International has only recently returned to the game after almost a year out with a broken leg, and is in need of some first team action to cement his place back in the Red Devils title chasing squad.

Potential loan deals to Coca-Cola Championship clubs, Cardiff City and Leeds United were recently turned down by the player, and the Golden Boys boss told the Watford Observer,

"I have enquired about Alan,"

"If we were to have a go at getting Alan we couldn't get him until January, which is probably good as he may go somewhere else first.

"But I don't really see it happening because he needs time to get back into the groove of things."

The effervescent Boothroyd, who is also keen to explore the possibility of retaining the services of on loan goalkeeper, Ben Foster for a third year, went on to deny reports linking him with former Watford great, Heidar Helguson,

“I haven't contacted Fulham about Heidar and I think he's playing regularly for them anyway."
