Boothroyd In A Hurry

Last updated : 02 January 2007 By Gary Holmes

Watford's dynamic boss, Aidy Boothroyd wasted little time in strengthening his squad by announcing he has concluded a deal to bring talented youngster, Moses Ashikodi to Vicarage Road.

The 19-year-old has spent the last 12 months at Scottish Premier League giants, Glasgow Rangers but failed to break into Paul Le Guen's struggling side.

A prestigiously talented schoolboy, Ashikodi made his professional debut aged just 15-years-old for Millwall against Brighton in 2003.

A reported training ground dust-up with Mark McGammon hastened his departure from the New Den, and after a short spell at West Ham United he moved Scotland.

Ashikodi, who has represented England at every age level from 15 upwards, joins Watford on a two and a half year deal, and is expected to be included in the squad to face Coca-Cola League Two outfit, Stockport in the FA Cup Third Round this weekend.

“He's a talented player who has perhaps not been given a chance at Rangers,” added Boothroyd,

“He was something of a child star who has seen his career stall so I'm looking forward to working with him.”
