Boyhood Birmingham fan Deeney wrote in his pre-match programme notes that he took no pleasure in their city rivals' plight this season.
But you would not have known it after watching the striker celebrate a 90th-minute equaliser, followed by a dramatic winner deep into stoppage time.
"We were poor but we have to appreciate that we've been good at Manchester United and other teams like that and got nothing from it," he told Hornets Player
"We'll take that - and to score two against Villa was definitely a nice feeling."
Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores faces an uncertain future with the club's owners understood to be considering a change at the end of the campaign.
But Deeney insisted Watford have exceeded expectations in their first season back in the Premier League.

We would've chewed somebody's arms and feet off for that," he added
"We appreciate the fans can get frustrated but let's just enjoy it, because in Watford's history in the Premier League we've never stayed up, so we've beaten all the records."
Villa twice led at Vicarage Road through Ciaran Clark's header and Jordan Ayew's strike, which sandwiched a fine free-kick from Almen Abdi.
But the beleaguered midlanders, who had Aly Cissokho sent off with 15 minutes left, could not hold out as Deeney's double condemned them to a club record 11th straight defeat.
Acting manager Eric Black said: "I thought there was a lot to be encouraged by.
"I know we've only got two games to go but all I can do every week is start on a Monday, look at the game on the Saturday and do our best to win a game of football."
