Every Premier League team's player of the weekend: Gameweek 23

Well, that was an interesting weekend of Premier League action, wasn't it?

Southampton ended Manchester City's winning streak, Hakim Ziyech scored a screamer in Chelsea's win over Tottenham, and there were last minute scenes of jubilation at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat West Ham.

There were plenty of exquisite individual performances, too.

So, let's have a look at each Premier League side's top performing star from Gameweek 23.

Arsenal - Emile Smith Rowe (7/10) vs Burnley

What we said: "A little underwhelming in the first half but stepped up after the break. A massive goal threat and unlucky not to grab a goal or an assist before he was surprisingly taken off for Nketiah."

Aston Villa - Emiliano Buendia (7/10) vs Everton

What we said: "What. A. Header. Coutinho's arrival seems to have really spurred him on to improve as he looks increasingly like the player Villa thought they'd signed in the summer."

Brentford - Kristoffer Ajer (7/10) vs Wolves

What we said: "Brentford look more assured with him in the side and made great runs forward - eventually resulting in the equaliser."

Brighton - Tariq Lamptey (8/10) vs Leicester

What we said: "Changed the game when he came off the bench."

Burnley - James Tarkowski (7/10) vs Arsenal

What we said: "More than happy to deal with Arsenal's crosses into the box. Backed himself against Lacazette in the air and rightly so."

Chelsea - Hakim Ziyech (9/10) vs Tottenham

What we said: "Bright start. Dazzling footwork before testing Lloris. WHAT. A. GOAL. Masterful strike into the top corner, and zinged Lloris' fingertips again moments later. His best game in a Chelsea shirt."

Crystal Palace - Michael Olise (7/10) vs Liverpool

What we said: "Gave away a few sloppy fouls early on but soon exploded into life. Such a confident ball carrier and sat Van Dijk down just before the break. His side's best performer by a margin but should have scored before the break."

Everton - Abdoulaye Doucoure (7/10) vs Aston Villa

What we said: "Got through a heck of a lot of work in the middle of the park. Ended the match with a staggering seven tackles."

Leeds - Raphinha (7/10) vs Newcastle

What we said: "Clearly the best player on the pitch and was at the heart of anything good, but the final ball was lacking."

Leicester - Youri Tielemans (8/10) vs Brighton

What we said: "Brilliant midfield performance. By far the best player on the pitch for the Foxes."

Liverpool - Andy Robertson (7/10) vs Crystal Palace

What we said: "Two assists. Both of them were perfect deliveries. Defending was fine, aside from one losing battle with Olise in the second half."

Manchester City - Kevin De Bruyne (7/10) vs Southampton

What we said: "Perfect set-piece delivery got City back into it after he had been too quiet for the first hour. Hit the post himself soon after and again went close later on."

Manchester United - Scott McTominay (7/10) vs West Ham

What we said: "The anchoring figure sweeping behind his buzzing midfield colleagues with plenty of assurance."

Newcastle - Jonjo Shelvey (8/10) vs Leeds

What we said: "Good first half and almost scored, marshalled the midfield well before slamming home the winning free-kick."

Norwich - Josh Sargent (9/10) vs Watford

What we said: "Netted his first Premier League goal with a contender for goal of the season and then doubled his tally soon after."

Southampton - Mohammed Salisu (9/10) vs Manchester City

What we said: "Was getting his head or a foot to virtually everything and was vital to his team securing this result."

Tottenham - Hugo Lloris (6/10) vs Chelsea

What we said: "Made some good saves but questions will be asked about Ziyech's goal. He didn't even dive."

Watford - Joao Pedro (6/10) vs Norwich

What we said: "Looked a first half threat but his best effort was a tame effort shortly before half-time. Later rippled the top of the net."

West Ham - Declan Rice (8/10) vs Manchester United

What we said: "As commanding as ever, Rice and Hammers alike will have particularly enjoyed an exchange that left Ronaldo dumped on the Old Trafford turf and West Ham in possession."

Wolves - Joao Moutinho (9/10) vs Brentford

What we said: "A top performance from a top player who's ageing like a fine wine."
