“Let's make sure the atmosphere inside the ground is pumped up before kick-off”

In his weekly email address Golden Boys manager, Aidy Boothroyd explains an early morning breakfast meeting before turning his attention to Millwall at the weekend.

First off, I want to say I was overwhelmed by the support at Southampton on Monday night. From start to finish, those of you who made the journey out sang the home supporters so I was delighted you could go away smiling after we got the result we all wanted.

People talk about this part of the year being the business end of the season but, for me, from the very first to the very last match – whenever that is – it will be about our performances. It's those performances that lead to results and ultimately determine how successful we are.

I know I've spoken of it before but that character and resilience we have about us is a pre-requisite for all successful teams. However, if we rely on that alone, it won't be enough. We also need to be able to perform at 80 per cent and above every match and that will always remain our aim as we approach the final games of the season.

Following the Southampton win, yesterday morning I was privileged to speak at a breakfast meeting of the Watford Chamber of Commerce. It's always somewhat surprising to me that people in business want to listen to what goes on in sport when, in fact, people in sport can learn a lot from those in business. I have to say it was an enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable morning.

So the focus now turns to Saturday and our next match against Millwall, which again takes on the mantle of being our most important of the season. Millwall are fighting for their lives and I expect the game to be very similar to that against Derby.

For your part, I'd love you to follow the example set by the 1,500 or so that were down at St. Mary's on Monday night. Coming to Vicarage Road this Saturday has got to be just the start of your support. Having made the effort to get here, let's make sure the atmosphere inside the ground is pumped up before kick-off.

I've talked before about the genuine impact you can have on our success. So don't forget how important you are and how much we want to hear you this weekend.
