Manchester United 1-0 Watford: Player ratings as Red Devils labour into FA Cup fourth round

Manchester United laboured into the next round of the FA Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford.

The hosts came flying out of the traps and took the lead thanks to Scott McTominay's header from an Alex Telles corner, which went in off the post after just four minutes.

Neither side created much else in a pretty drab affair, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will have their name in the hat for the fourth round thanks to the win. Here's how each player fared on the night.

MANCHESTER UNITED

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Dean Henderson (GK) - 5/10 - A few erratic moments in the first half, including a kung-fu kick on Eric Bailly just before half-time. Didn't have many saves to make though.

Brandon Williams (RB) - 6/10 - Kept Zinckernagel quiet on his debut but wasn't enough of a threat going the other way for United.

Eric Bailly (CB) - 5/10 - Didn't have much to do in the first half before being replaced as a precaution due to a potential concussion.

Axel Tuanzebe (CB) - 6/10 - Dealt with the pace of Pedro and Gray well but a bit too keen sometimes to win the ball early. Was booked.

Alex Telles (LB) - 6/10 - A constant threat down the left in the first half and got the assist for the opening goal. Quieter in the second half but defended well too.

2. Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM) - 5/10 - Started brightly with a goal and was okay defensively, but struggled on the ball completing just 80% of his passes.

Donny Van de Beek (CM) - 6/10 - Bright moments throughout and linked well with Juan Mata in particular. Kept the ball all night long with 96% of his passes completed.

Jesse Lingard (CAM) - 5/10 - Showed good intent early but faded out of the game and justified Solskjaer's reasons for not giving him a lot of play time recently.

3. Forwards

Juan Mata (RW) - 5/10 - Drifted inside a lot to link with the midfield and had a big chance saved in the first half after great play with Van de Beek. Not much other than that.

Daniel James (LW) - 4/10 - Had a bright opening five minutes then it all went downhill from there. Wouldn't have looked out of place in the opposition lineup.

Mason Greenwood (ST) - 5/10 - Barely got any service in his preferred role and struggled to make an impact before being subbed.

4. Substitutes

Harry Maguire (CB) - 6/10 - Came on for the injured Bailly and dealt with everything comfortably all night.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - N/A

Anthony Martial (ST) - N/A

Nemanja Matic (CM) - N/A

WATFORD

5. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Daniel Bachmann (GK) - 6/10 - Could do nothing about the goal and made a few decent saves throughout to give a good account of himself.

Marc Navarro (RB) - 6/10 - Frustrated Dan James all night and won more tackles than any Watford defender on the night with three.

Francisco Sierralta (CB) - 6/10 - Kept the Man United attack quiet throughout and distributed the ball well, completing 93% of his passes.

William Troost-Ekong (CB) - 6/10 - Dealt well with the threat of Greenwood and defended the box well, winning more aerial duels than any other Watford player while he was on the pitch.

Adam Masina (LB) - 5/10 - Didn't have much defending to do but didn't offer enough going forward and was subbed before the hour mark.

6. Midfielders

Sarr played well for Watford | OLI SCARFF/Getty Images

Ismaila Sarr (RM) - 6/10 - Was Watford's outlet on the counter attack and but for a lack of end product, they could have had a more successful outing.

Will Hughes (CM) - 5/10 -
The one-time wonderkid really struggled in midfield on the ball, but made more tackles than anyone else (5).

Nathaniel Chalobah (CM) - 6/10 -
Led the side well, being aggressive and trying to be proactive but was forced off with a hamstring injury late on.

Philip Zinckernagel (LM) - 5/10 -
His debut was a bit of a non-event as he struggled to get any change from Williams before being substituted.

7. Forwards

Gray had little impact on the night | Richard Heathcote/Getty Images

Andre Gray (ST) - 5/10 - An honest day's work from the former Burnley man but couldn't get the better of any of United's centre-halves in the end.

Joao Pedro (ST) - 5/10 -
Was more lively in the second half but never really got to show his talents off.

8. Substitutes

Jeremy Ngakia (LB) - 5/10 - Was brought on to be a more attacking threat, but the pattern of the game never changed.

Ken Sema (RM) - 5/10 - Tried to be more direct going forward but it wasn't enough to really trouble United.

Ben Wilmot (CB) - N/A

Joseph Hungbo (LM) - N/A

Daniel Phillips (CM) - N/A
