Premier League final day: What is left to play for?

The Premier League season concludes on Sunday, with the final day action meaningful across all areas of the table.

All 20 teams get underway at 16:00 BST, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all enjoying home games to end their respective seasons.

  • Arsenal v Everton
  • Brentford v Leeds
  • Brighton v West Ham
  • Burnley v Newcastle
  • Chelsea v Watford
  • Crystal Palace v Manchester United
  • Leicester v Southampton
  • Liverpool v Wolves
  • Manchester City v Aston Villa
  • Norwich v Tottenham

What's still to play for?

Premier League title race

Manchester City and Liverpool go head-to-head on the final day, with just a point separating Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp's sides in the Premier League title race.

City hold the initiative and take on Aston Villa at home, while Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield hoping for a bit of help from club legend, and now Villa boss, Steven Gerrard.

As it stands:

  • 1) Manchester City - P37, 90pts (+72 GD)
  • 2) Liverpool - P37, 89pts (+66 GD)

Champions League qualification

The race for a top-four finish usually goes right down to the wire and this season is no different.

This time it's north London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal duelling for fourth place, with Spurs having gone into the ascendancy after two defeats in two for Mikel Arteta's Gunners.

Spurs, under the guidance of Antonio Conte, go to relegated Norwich while Arsenal take on Everton at the Emirates Stadium, who secured safety against Crystal Palace last time out.

As it stands:

  • 4) Tottenham Hotspur - P37, 68pts (+24 GD)
  • 5) Arsenal - P37, 66pts (+9 GD)

Europa League qualification

The qualification battle doesn't stop there, as Manchester United and West Ham go head-to-head on the final day for a place in the Europa League.

A win for Manchester United against Crystal Palace will guarantee sixth and relegate the Hammers to the Europa Conference League, but any kind of mistake at Selhurst Park could allow David Moyes' side to nip in should they beat Brighton - that's because they have a vastly superior goal difference.

As it stands:

  • 6) Manchester United - P37, 58pts (+1 GD)
  • 7) West Ham United - P37, 56pts (+11 GD)

Relegation battle

It's between Burnley and Leeds for the final relegation spot, with the loser joining Watford and Norwich in the Championship next year.

Jesse Marsch takes his Leeds side to Brentford needing to better the result of Burnley, who take on Newcastle at Turf Moor under the management of interim boss Mike Jackson - who has picked up some impressive victories after succeeding Sean Dyche.

As it stands:

  • 17) Burnley - P37, 35pts (-18 GD)
  • 18) Leeds - P37, 35pts (-38 GD)

Individual Awards

Golden Boot

There's also a number of individual awards to win on the final day of the season, with the Golden Boot perhaps the most prestigious to be decided.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah currently leads Tottenham ace Son Heung-min by just a single goal, with Cristiano Ronaldo a little further back in third place.

Son has a great chance to leapfrog Salah for his first Golden Boot, with the Egyptian's fitness still in question after a recent injury in the FA Cup final.

As it stands:

  • 1) Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 22 goals
  • 2) Son Heung-min (Tottenham) - 21 goals
  • 3) Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - 18 goals

Golden Glove

We're yet to determine which Premier League goalkeeper will have kept the most clean sheets too, with Liverpool's Alisson and Manchester City's Ederson currently locked on 20 shutouts each.

Alisson won the award in 2018/19, his only success, while Ederson scooped the award in 2019/20 and 2020/21 - evidence of the domination of the two Brazilian goalkeepers.

As it stands:

  • 1=) Alisson (Liverpool) - 20 clean sheets
  • 1=) Ederson (Manchester City) - 20 clean sheets

Playmaker Award

The playmaker award recognises the most assists of a single player throughout the season - and it's another award that Mohamed Salah is in contention for.

He currently sits on 13 assists, just one ahead of Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jarrod Bowen, Mason Mount and Andrew Robertson are also in double figures during 2021/22.

As it stands:

  • 1) Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 13 assists
  • 2) Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 12 assists
  • 3) Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) - 10 assists
  • 4) Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 10 assists
  • 5) Andy Robertson (Liverpool) - 10 assists
