Quique Sanchez Flores preparing for an emotional Watford farewell

The climax to the Barclays Premier League season on Sunday will also mark the end of Sanchez Flores' season-long spell at the club after the Spaniard confirmed that he will leave next month.

Despite defying the odds to steer promoted Watford into 13th place with one match remaining, the decision has been taken to not activate a one-year extension clause in his contract.

It means the clash with Sunderland this weekend will be Sanchez Flores' Hornets swansong.

"It will be really, really emotional and special in the last moment with the Watford fans

I am excited for my last match at Vicarage Road," he said.

"We have a lot of reasons to be happy - we have completed our objective and we have the opportunity to play in the stadium with our own fans, so it will be amazing.

"Sunderland can relax now and we are going to enjoy the match and try to win."

Sanchez Flores had a different view on the relative success of the season when he met the board on Thursday, but he remains positive on his time at Watford.

"I've been able to work with lots of different people and it's been an amazing experience," he said.

"The players responded really well to me and they have done the best they possible could."
