Quique Sanchez Flores set for crunch talks with Watford owners

Since his appointment last summer, Spaniard Flores has led the Hornets to mid-table security in the Barclays Premier League and also to the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley, where they were beaten by Crystal Palace

Nevertheless , the 51-year-old's future has been the subject of speculation following an inconsistent run of league form over the second half of the campaign, with reports that the Italian Pozzo family owners are looking to activate a break clause in the manager's two-year contract

Watford beat relegated Aston Villa 3-2 with two late goals last weekend, which moved the Hertfordshire club to 44 points, enough to secure top-flight status again next season

Whether Flores will still be at the helm come August remains to be seen

"We do not need to talk again at the moment," Flores said at a press conference ahead of Sunday's trip to Liverpool

"We decide to come back and talk maybe next week

The contract says that in the last part of May both parties can decide if we want to stay together or not.

"It is important when the season is finished that both parties have the possibility to decide if we are in the right way

When we have some news, we will give it."

Flores added: "I appreciate the interest in my contract and about the future, but I don't want to talk more about it

I don't want this atmosphere around me, the club and the owner

"I am only thinking about the match on Sunday

"I am happy at Watford and I respect the Watford fans so much

I want to transmit how lovely it is here."

Despite his positivity for the achievements following promotion under former boss Slavisa Jokanovic, Flores accepts Watford have perhaps switched off in recent weeks

"When you reach a target it's easy to lose focus

It has been tough for us since two months ago, we were in the comfort zone," the Spaniard added

" We have been talking with the players a lot that we need to be competitive, including when we know that we are safe

"At this moment it depends on us - how is our ambition to add points in every single match we have to play?

"It is necessary to show that we are still in this competition fighting and with ambition to win games."
