“Things Can't Get Much Better”

Watford's on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper, Ben Foster has spoken of his joy at being named in Steve McClaren's first-ever England squad.

After narrowly missing out on World Cup selection under Sven Goran Erikkson, Foster has had to endure a frustrating pre-season, as an expected year long loan return to Vicarage Road was thrown into doubt as the Old Trafford club sought to secure adequate cover for regular first choice Edwin Van dar Sar.

However, a hectic 24 hours which saw the Red Devils clinch Tomasz Kuszczak from West Bromwich Albion, thereby allowing Foster to return to Watford, has been quickly followed by the news that the Leamington Spa born keeper had been named in the England squad.

“The call up is a massive honour, the highest aim for any footballer, so even if I don't get to play, it's a fantastic opportunity for me”, said Foster.

“Sir Alex Ferguson mentioned to me the other day that he thought there was a possibility of me getting in the squad so I had an inkling it might happen”.

Foster concluded,

“I was delighted to sign for Watford this week and now this happens so things can't get much better.”
