Watford Football Club has received a timely boost ahead of their upcoming return to the Premiership by securing one-year extensions to the contracts of captain Gavin Mahon, defender Jay DeMerit and midfielder, Al Bangura.

The trio all played a significant part in helping the Golden Boys reach the top flight of English football in May, and Mahon in particular is already looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead.

"We had an unbelievable season last year and the lads cannot wait to get started in the Premiership now.

I am determined to enjoy the experience.

"But as with any sport you are only happy when you are winning and we will not be going out just to make up the numbers.”

Mahon's deal will keep him at the club until 2008, while DeMerit and Bangura have agreed to remain at Vicarage Road until 2009.

DeMerit, 26, has enjoyed a meteoric rise since he arrived from non-league Northwood two summers ago, while Bangura, at just 18, is already pressing for a regular first team place after making a number of telling contributions from the substitute's bench during last season's successful promotion campaign.
