Eleven games in, just four defeats and an eagerly awaited first Premiership victory of the season secured with success over Middlesbrough, enough to leave all Watford fans rejoicing on the way home last Saturday evening.

Even better, there had been hope that Marlon King was nearing full fitness following a knee complaint, ready to resume his role as the team's leading striker – then the crushing news confirmed by manager, Aidy Boothroyd during his after match press conference.

Marlon King will not feature again this season!

“I learnt of the news late last night. Marlon went in for a routine operation yesterday on his cartilage and unfortunately they found some bone had flaked away from his femur.

It's a blow, to lose such an important player and a great character” added the dynamic boss.

After last season's memorable goal scoring exploits the 26-year-old Jamaican had only managed to net twice so far this term, albeit one an absolute screamer against West Ham United to secure Watford's first point back in the big time, but his all round play and presence make him an integral part of the Watford revolution under Boothroyd.

The Golden Boys still have many talented individuals, and collectively as ever they present a formidable force, but will Watford survive in the Premiership without the goals of Marlon King?
