Alan Wiley Refs West Ham United Game

Last updated : 08 February 2007 By Gary Holmes

The vastly experienced 46-year-old has taken charge of 20 top flight fixtures this season, the last being the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield last weekend, sending off three players and booking 58 to date.

Mr. Wiley has not as yet had the pleasure of officiating in any game involving Watford this season, although it will be the fourth occasion he has taken charge of West Ham United.

The three previous matches have seen the Hammers beat Blackburn Rovers by the odd goal in three at the end of October, sandwiched between a defeat at Liverpool in August (1-2) and a disappointing home reversal to Wigan Athletic (0-2) at the beginning of December.

Mr. Wiley has produced just one yellow card for a West Ham United player in these fixtures, George McCartney entering the merry whistle blower's notebook for unsporting behaviour during the Blackburn Rovers game.

The Staffordshire born official began refereeing in 1981 and progressed to the national list of referees in 1995 before further advancement saw him promoted to the Premier League list in 1999.

Amongst a number of high profile matches he has officiated in, Mr. Wiley presided over the 2002 FA Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United in 2002.

Mr. Wiley will be joined by Mr. J. Holbrook and Mr. J Flynn as his assistants at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.
