Rob Styles Refs Wigan Athletic Game

The vastly experienced 42-year-old has earned himself something of a reputation for being card happy over the years, and he has already booked no fewer than 16 players and sent off George Boateng in Middlesbrough's recent clash with Arsenal during his three Premiership fixtures this season.

A glance back in time shows that the Hampshire born official did not take charge of any game involving Watford last season, although he did officiate in four matches involving our opponents, Wigan Athletic.

It is interesting to note that three of these clashes ended in one nil defeats for the Latics, away to Charlton Athletic and Fulham and at home to Liverpool, but the one remaining fixture resulted in a single goal victory for Paul Jewell's side, courtesy of a Damien Francis (now a Golden Boy) strike that defeated Everton at Goodison Park exactly a year ago this weekend, September 24th 2005.

Styles began refereeing in 1987 and progressed to the national list of referees in 1996 before further progression saw him promoted to the Premier League list in 2000 and the FIFA International List two years later.

Styles has presided over many high profile matches, most notably the 2005 FA Cup Final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium involving Arsenal and Manchester United, in which the Gunners just managed to emerge victorious, 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw.

Mr. Styles will be joined by Mr. A.Halliday and Mr. S.Procter-Green as his assistants at the JJB Stadium at the weekend.
