Aidy's View: Everton (a)

In the aftermath of a narrow and controversial opening day Barclays Premiership defeat at Everton, Watford manager, Aidy Boothroyd has called for the use of technology to ensure more correct decisions are made.

Trailing to Andrew Johnson's debut goal for the Toffees, the Golden Boys had been pressing hard for a second half equaliser when referee Mr. Walton erroneously adjudged Watford's Chris Powell to have handled Tim Cahill's intended cross with eight minutes remaining.

“The referee's given it after his lineman pointed that way. The linesman had a terrific view but he's made a mistake.

Having seen the incident, it's another example of how human error can decide a match.

I believe we need to use everything we can to make the officials' job easier and today's was an example of where using technology could have helped them make the right decision.

Unfortunately, that does not help us now.”
