Fulham Res 0 Watford Res 1

A goal by experienced midfield first team schemer, Matthew Spring six minutes before half time fired Watford to a second reserve victory of the campaign at a blustery Motspur Park last night.

The visitors had travelled to South West London with a squad reminiscent to the one fielded by Aidy Boothroyd for a Carling Cup Second Round Tie against Coca-Cola League Two club, Accrington Stanley exactly a week previous.

To further strengthen an already formidable looking side there was also an outing for bustling centre-forward, Darius Henderson.

It was therefore no surprise that Watford dominated proceedings after an initial lively start by the hosts.

The first real opening did fall Fulham's way, but after Chris James had released Portuguese youth international Lino Goncalves down the left the latter dragged his shot wide when the pass on to Ismael Ehui may have been the better option.

As the half wore on though the Golden Boys began to exert concerted pressure on their hosts and Hungarian International, Tamas Priskin should have done better when left unmarked at the back post but his volley was skewed well over the bar.

As the yellows continued to dominate Henderson then propelled a powerful header that was destined for the top corner before Mark Crossley in the home goal flew to his left to tip the ball over the bar.

However, there was nothing the former Nottingham Forest stopper could do on 39 minutes when Watford opened the scoring in spectacular fashion. A cross from the left was headed out well by the Whites' Jack Wilson to the edge of the penalty box but Spring as composed as ever, unleashed a tremendous shot that whistled into the back of the net.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first with the visitors remaining firmly in the ascendancy and Crossley had to again be alert to deny Anthony McNamee following a cleverly worked set piece attempt.

The home side did make a couple of late substitutions in a vain attempt to restore parity but Watford, marshalled superbly by a defensive line including the experienced Lloyd Doyley and James Chambers comfortably held on to claim all three points, a victory that moves the Golden Boys up into fifth place in the Barclays Premiership Reserve League South table.
