A strong looking Golden Boys’ Reserve side crashed to a disappointing defeat at Broughhinge Road, Boreham Wood on Monday evening.

Despite fielding, a number of men with first team experience, most notably Clarke Carlisle, James Chambers, Anthony McNamee, Al Bangura, and Dominic Blizzard, who lasted an hour as he continues his return to fitness, Gary Smith’s outfit were distinctly second best against a slick looking Ipswich Town.

The visitors, with an impressive track record of producing young starlets shone throughout and had raced into a three goal half time lead, thanks to strikes by Billy Clarke, Dean McDonald, Darryl Knights.

The hosts tried in vain to force their way back into the contest and Joel Grant hit an upright just prior to the break, while Theo Robinson should have reduced the deficit late on, but the damage had been done much earlier to leave manager, Smith with plenty to ponder.

Team: James Beasant, James Chambers, Jordan Parkes, Toumani Diagouraga, Clarke Carlisle, Adrian Mariappa, Dominic Blizzard (John-Joe O’Toole 60), Al Bangura, Theo Robinson, Joel Grant, Anthony McNamee (Claude Seanla 86). Subs: not used: Ryan Watts, Joe O’Cearuill, Kyle Matthews.
