Watford's second string fell to a disappointing if not totally unsurprising home defeat to Crystal Palace last night.

The South London outfit, fielding a number of players with first team experience scored twice in the game's first quarter through Jon Macken and Australian international, Tony Popovic.

The Golden Boys battled gamely thereafter but the Eagles increased their lead with 15 minutes remaining, Marco Reich netting with a fine solo effort.

Gary Smith's side did manage a late consolation although even that was scored by the Selhurst Park side, Glen Wilson deflecting an Alex Campana cross past his own goalkeeper.
