Steve Tanner Refs Second Leg

Last updated : 16 May 2006 By Gary Calder

The Football League has confirmed that Steve Tanner will be the ‘man in the middle' as Watford bid for play-off glory against Crystal Palace in the Coca-Cola Championship Semi-Final Second Leg on Tuesday.

The Somerset based official is no stranger to the Golden Boys, having taken charge of their goalless draw against Champions Reading at the Madejski Stadium as recently as March 11 2006.

No Watford player incurred the wrath of Tanner on that particular occasion, but the whistler blower has gained a reputation of being red card happy at times having shown nine already during the current campaign, including Preston North End's Danny Dichio and Claude Davis in his only match involving opponents, Crystal Palace this season.

The 35-year started refeering back in 1987, joining the Football League as an assistant in 1998 and the National List five years later.

Mr. Tanner will be joined by assistants, Mr. SG Artis and Mr. CA Barker at Vicarage Road.
