Watford manager, Aidy Boothroyd finally had reason to celebrate after a thoroughly professional team performance had earned his side a first Premiership victory of the season over a disappointing Middlesbrough.

“Overall I was pleased and thought we were very professional”, enthused the Bradford born boss.

“It's nice to get three points and I have been saying all along that it's only a matter of time because we have been consistent.

We can play high tempo football for 95 minutes and I don't think many people in this league can.

We have a real attitude to want to have a go and to force goalkeepers into saves and if you have that attitude then statistically you are going to get goals, and that's what happened today.

Middlesbrough can beat anybody on their day and they can also lose to anybody on their day. Today we made it very difficult for them and we didn't give them a moment's peace.

Today was about our players, our work rate, our creating chances. We were solid and we got another clean sheet and that's four for the season now.

We've had a solid start and we have now got to make sure we maintain that, keep getting the clean sheets, get the goals and climb the table.

We were resolute and resilient and we just need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal."
