Unbeaten Run Comes to an End
Watford's unbeaten run came to an end at home to Leeds when they lost 1-0, which followed on from Tuesday's cup exit to Notts County. The solitary goal was an early one, it was scored in the 6th minute by Richard Naylor.
The Golden Boys were without top scorer Danny Graham who had hobbled off during the week against County, Graham was replaced by Troy Deeney and Birmingham loanee Jordon Mutch got his first start of the season. Both players did well, Denney got involved and had some good opportunities but failed to find the back of the net. Jordon Mutch showed his class as he used his passing skills to bring the wide players into the game.
Richard Naylor scored following a corner from Neil Kilkenny, Bradley Johnson and Luciano Becchio both had blocked shots before Naylor found the back of the net. Following the goal Watford had some good possession in the first half; Deeney, Eustace and Sordell all had chances to equalize but failed to capitalize.
In the second half the Golden Boys continued to push but still couldn't find an equalizer, Jordon Mutch struck a long range shot only for Kasper Schmeichel to save. Malky Mackay made an attacking move by swapping Will Buckley for Stephen McGinn. Other opportunities in the second half came from John Eustace and Will Buckley. Don Cowie had a good game and looked very lively throughout the match. Scott Loach was called into action when he was forced to save with his legs with 20 minutes left on the clock to keep Watford in the game but the attacking players weren't able to beat Schmeichel.
Malky Mackay would've wanted to go into the international break unbeaten but instead he'll have two weeks with the squad to pick them up before facing Doncaster Rovers at home, two away games will then follow.
