Watford 2 Doncaster 2 - Late goal pain (AGAIN)
Watford looked to have won at home for the first time this season only for another late goal to put an end to that dream. Two second half goals from substitute Sordell put Watford in pole position only for Friend to equalize three minutes into injury time.
Doncaster came to Vicarage Road wanting to play attractive passing football which they achieved in the first half, Watford had their fair share of play and could’ve had three penalties before Simon Gillett scored in the 32nd minute, it was his first goal for over four years.
After a frustrating second half for Malky Mackay’s boys Watford came out positively in the second half as they searched for an equalizer. Malky swapped Sordell for McGinn in the 55th minute, a move that turned out to change the game. In the 63rd minute Don Cowie swung a ball into the box and Sordell connected with a powerful header which hit the back of the net. Over the next seven minutes, Watford continued to attack and were rewarded when Sordell scored a second. Scott Loach pumped the ball forward but it wasn’t cleared by Sullivan and the free ball bounced back to Sordell who turned a defender and drove the ball into the bottom right hand corner.
Watford tried to close out the game but failed as Doncaster looked for an equalizer, they moved from a nice passing game opting for a more direct style. This paid off when Doncaster got a corner in the 93rd minute, the ball was crossed into the box and as Watford’s defence failed to clear the ball it fell to Friend who smashed the ball into the top right hand corner.
The result meant more disappointment for Watford fans who’ve seen their team throw away a two goal lead against Coventry and lose to Leeds plus a cup defeat to League One Notts County - Malky will need to get his team to keep their concentration or it will be a long hard season.
