Aidy's View: Thank You For Ten Months Of Support

Hi everyone,

Sunday was an emotional day for me and I was so pleased with everything about it. The result came about through people being all that they can be and excelling themselves. We saw plenty of that in Cardiff and we also saw a reward for people who are prepared to take a chance.

The chairman and the board gave me the opportunity here and I really appreciated that so it was great to see them celebrate the promotion. My players, the staff, the fans and everybody connected with Watford FC will never forget the day in Cardiff and the open bus tour last night was also phenomenal.

The Watford weather was awful but the fans were fantastic. There was even a magic moment when all the little yellow, black and red things were fluttering in the air and the sun briefly came out. Perfect.

I put our performance at the Millennium Stadium down to belief. I thought that it looked like Leeds had already had their ‘final' at Preston while we wanted to get straight into the dressing rooms after beating Crystal Palace in our semi-final.

We didn't want to be excited just to be in the final. We knew we had a job to do and, on the day, every single player was superb. You, the fans, were also fantastic. You have been magnificent all year – and what a great way to finish, out numbered but certainly not out sung at the Millennium Stadium.

Since we got back from Cardiff, I've sat down and spent a lot of time with Graham Simpson and Mark Ashton to discuss what we need to do for next season. The players have been rewarded and now they will get some rest. The whole club is now on the up and it's all about building something here.

I said it after the game on Sunday and I'll say it again to you. We are not going down next season.

Thank you for your support over the last ten months. Have a great summer and look out for my first email of the new campaign once the pre-season training gets underway.
