Boothroyd Pleased To Have Got His Man

An elated Aidy Boothroyd believes the signing of whole hearted centre half Danny Shittu is a massive boost to the club as they prepare for a return to the top table of English football.

The charismatic Watford manager, having already added the experienced pair of Damien Francis and Chris Powell to the squad that memorably gained promotion via the play-offs last May, has now further increased his options by capturing Nigerian International, Shittu from Queens Park Rangers in a deal that could rise to £3m less than two weeks before the start of the new season.

And after targeting the powerfully built 25-year-old defender for a number of weeks, Boothroyd remains convinced Shittu has the potential to be a success in the top flight while, perhaps as importantly, is confident in the player's ability to settle quickly into the ‘Watford family'.

“In Danny we're signing another player who fits the Watford way- hungry to learn, and eager to prove his worth at the very, very top level against the best.”

Boothroyd added,

“He is somebody that we have been chasing for some time and I'm pleased that he will now have the chance to fight for a place along with the other excellent centre-halves we have at the club.”

Shittu is expected to be included in the squad for Tuesday evening's home pre-season friendly against Italian club, Inter Milan.
