Golden Boys All Of Them

Ben Foster – Assured handling and positional sense, although he gave supporters a minor heart attack when pulling down Rob Hulse in the first half.

Lloyd Doyley – Combative as ever in the right back position, and always looked to get forward at every opportunity. Unlucky to be booked by Referee. Mr. Dean for alleged time wasting in the second half.

Jordan Stewart – An assured display in the left back berth. Used his pace to good effect with a couple of surging runs and tackled feverously.

Malky Mackay – Another outstanding display from the veteran Scot who was winning his third successive Championship promotion. Commanding in the air at both ends of the field, he was unlucky not to join fellow team defender, Jay DeMerit on the score sheet. Surely deserves a chance at the top level.

Jay DeMerit – Outshone opponent and compatriot Eddie Lewis who is going to the World Cup with the USA. Capped a truly superb display with a fantastic diving header to given the Golden Boys a lead they never lost. Defended admirably in tandem with Malky Mackay.

James Chambers – Retained on the right hand side of midfield after impressive performances against Crystal Palace in the play-off semi-finals. Had a big hand in securing the vital second goal just before the hour, and ensured retention of the advantage by blocking Shaun Derry's goal bound header with an off the line clearance eleven minutes later.

Matthew Spring – Impressive foraging against former paymasters. Unfortunate to get booked in the first half after never letting the Leeds midfield settle, and when there was more space in the second used it to good effect, helping set up Marlon King for the penalty award.

Gavin Mahon – Inspirational lung bursting display by the skipper who led from the front as usual. Won the crucial headers and tackles to ensure Watford always maintained control and territorial advantage.

Marlon KingWatford's talisman striker did not disappoint on the big stage. Worked tirelessly to drag the Leeds United back four out of position and always looked dangerous. Gained the penalty verdict from a tiring Shaun Derry with a terrific piece of skill.

Ashley Young – Sure to shine in the Premiership if not at his very best in the final. Still a big threat nevertheless, and a perfect delivery from a corner set up the crucial first goal, although trademark free-kicks were slightly disappointing - perhaps a sign of just how much is now being expected of the talented Stevenage born 20-year-old.

Darius Henderson – Simply awesome. Gave Paul Butler and Shaun Gregan a torrid time throughout and took responsibility for the penalty. His partnership with King continues to flourish.

Al Bangura – Came on late to shore things up and did not disappoint. Much is expected of the Sierra Leone youngster in next year's big time!
