Robbo treble enough to silence Pompey chimes

A hat-trick by young Theo Robinson helped a youthful reserve team to a welcome 3-1 away success against Portsmouth at a near deserted West Leigh Park, home of non-league club, Havant and Waterlooville last night.

On a bitterly cold evening Gary Smith's side started brightly, and following a couple of scares at the back took the lead in the 35th minute when Robinson took a clever pass from Ben Gill in his stride before slotting past Jamie Ashdown in the home goal.

With opposite number James Beasant, nephew of former Wimbledon stalwart Dave, excelling between the sticks the hosts were unable to level before the break, but did manage to regain equality just prior to the hour mark, Giovani Torre heading powerfully past Beasant after being set up by Franck Songo'o.

However, the Golden Boys had been impressive all evening and as the game entered the last ten minutes took a firm control of proceedings.

Robinson was first to react to an Elliot Frost shot that had been pushed away well by Ashdown to restore Watford's advantage, and the 17-year-old then completed his hat-trick in the final minute, out-pacing Andy Griffin before firing home from the edge of the six yard box.
