Struggling Carpi turn to former Watford boss Beppe Sannino

The 58-year-old takes over from Fabrizio Castori, who was sacked just six league games into the new Serie A campaign.

Castori guided Carpi to an historic promotion from Serie B but could not steer the Modenese club to a victory and on Monday became the first coach in Italy's top flight to be shown the door.

A statement from Carpi read: "Giuseppe Sannino is the new head coach of Carpi

"He has signed a contract with the Biancorossi which runs until June 30, 2016.

"The boss will hold his first training session this afternoon (Tuesday) at the Stadio Cabassi."

Sannino had been out of a job since leaving Sicilian side Catania in December.

He inherits a team that sit at the foot of the table having taken just two points from six games - Saturday's 5-1 defeat at Roma was Carpi's fourth loss of the campaign

Sannino already has good experience of coaching in Serie A having previously managed Siena, Palermo and Chievo

His first game in charge of Carpi will be at home to Torino on Saturday
