Watford youngster signs pro deal

Watford academy product Adam Thompson has signed his first professional contract with the club, agreeing a deal until the summer of 2013.The 18-year-old defender, who can play full-back or centre-half, made his first Hornets appearance in a League Cup defeat by Notts County in August.

Boss Malky Mackay told the club's website: "We feel there is potential in Adam and he has earned this contract.

"If he keeps on working hard it could be good for both Adam and Watford."

Harlow-born Thompson has represented Northern Ireland at under-18 level.

He becomes the fifth scholar to sign full-time terms this year, after Jonathan Bond, Gavin Massey, Sean Murray and Jack Bonham.
