Wolves 4-0 Watford: Woeful Hornets stumble closer to relegation

Three first-half goals helped Wolves blow away Watford in the Premier League on Thursday evening, as the Hornets were plunged further into relegation trouble.

Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence both netted in the early barrage and Cucho Hernandez scored an own goal, before Ruben Neves added some gloss to the scoreline after the interval.

The defeat leaves Roy Hodgson under serious pressure in the hot seat with Watford three points adrift of safety, with their closest challengers Everton possessing three games in hand.

Wolves took the lead after 13 minutes when Jimenez was on hand to poke home Hwang Hee-Chan's searching ball, before Hernandez turned the ball into his own net after Rayan Ait-Nouri's speculative ball bounced off the Colombian's thigh.

Things went from bad to worse for the Hornets when the usually reliable Ben Foster horribly skewed a clearance to Podence, who made no mistake in firing into an empty net.

With five minutes remaining, Neves settled the scoring with a delicious chip from the very edge of the Watford area, sealing Wolves' first win in four games.

Watford, meanwhile, remain three points adrift from safety but have played more games than Burnley and Everton who sit directly above them in the Premier League table.
